Melita Long (nee Sharp)

Melita Long (nee Sharp) has 12 years experience in marketing, recruitment, human resources and career coaching, in the public sector, education, financial services, recruitment, automotive and utilities industries. Her professional training includes a BCA in Marketing and Management and a BA in German from Victoria University. Melita has a Certificate in Career Coaching from the Worklife Career Practitioner Training College in Sydney and is currently completing a Graduate Diploma in Career Development through Auckland University of Technology.

Melita has worked in New Zealand, Australia, Germany and the UK and speaks German and Spanish. Her marketing experience includes working for international companies such as Invesco Fund Managers in London; Salomon Smith Barney Stockbrokers in Melbourne; Mitsubishi Motors in Wellington and Kaufhof Warenhaus AG (Department Store chain) in Cologne, Germany.  Previously Melita has also worked for Government departments including the New Zealand Immigration Service; Child Youth and Family Services and Victoria University.

While in London, Melita decided to integrate her long-held passion for personal and professional development. She applied her marketing skills to promoting individuals to help them with career management as their career coach. On her return to Wellington in 2003, she established the Career Services arm of Mercury Consulting Group, including CV and cover letter writing services, interview training and career coaching. In mid-2004 Melita formed her own business and is the Managing Director of Career Coach Consulting.

During her six years in the career coaching field, Melita has successfully developed new, unique career coaching methods and processes.  Her backgound in marketing has ensured that the CV writing method she developed clearly demonstrates the benefits and value of the individual to their prospective employers.  Given her international experience, she is familiar with adapting CVs to meet the requirements for different countries.  Melita has also developed a range of comprehensive career development and career management processes which draw on her knowledge of careers as well as international career development methodologies.

Melita has successfully worked with individuals from a wide range of professions from Graduates and Administrators through to Sales Managers, IT Project Managers and Chief Executive Officers.  This has been in a broad range of industries from manufacturing and hospitality through to the military, public sector and self-employed at all ages from 16 to 64.

Many clients have asked Melita to tell them 'what they should do with their lives', to which her response is that her role is as a facilitator of the process to help them to find their own answers.  She fundamentally believes that every person has a unique set of skills and abilities and also a unique purpose and a career or several career options which will enable each person to fulfil that purpose.  Her role is to help her clients to identify that unique purpose and to achieve a satisfying and rewarding career which makes best use of her clients' talents.

Melita's strengths are in her ability to proactively promote individuals; effectively identify their abilities and achievements; boost her client's confidence in the process, whilst supporting them in achieving their goals.
